About Yoga
People of all ages and physical abilities can practice yoga. Yoga is an ancient mind/body discipline with roots that go back 5,000 years in India. Most people in the West today focus on the physical and psychological benefits of yoga, including improved muscle strength, coordination, flexibility, agility and stress control, to name a few. About Pilates
Pilates focuses on working a number of muscle groups at once in smooth, continuous movements, creating a sense of length and strength rather than soreness and fatigue. Since workouts are individually tailored, they can be gentle enough for a mature adult with back pain, or challenging enough for an elite athlete.

Benefits of Pilates
Build strength, flexibility and coordination
Pilates exercise stretches and strengthens the abdomen and back muscles, coordinating smooth movements of the upper and lower muscle groups with the body's core.

Prevent injury
Evenly training all muscle groups avoids muscle imbalances and joint strains that can lead to injury.

Enhance your mind-body connection
Pilates trains the mind and body to work together to create a more efficient fitness program requiring less strain and repetition than traditional workouts.

Improve posture, breathing and circulation
Pilates helps align and support the back and neck and can reduce pain associated with postural problems.

Special Populations
Pilates provides an excellent complement to aerobic activity, and can be a gentle, yet effective exercise option for people facing the challenges of chronic pain, limited range of motion, arthritis, osteoporosis or scoliosis. Pilates is beneficial for other conditions, including:
