Jamie Hawk’s passion for working out inspired him to make a career out of health
and fitness. “I figured why not work all day doing something I love,” he says.
Jamie graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in physical education and sport with a concentration in exercise science, and served as student manager of the fitness center. Previously as program manager for the Department of Justice fitness facility in Washington, D.C., his responsibilities included overseeing daily operations of the 700-member facility, organizing and evaluating exercise and personal
training programs, promoting staff development, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and customer service. Jamie is an ACE certified personal trainer, LeMond RevMaster cycle instructor, Mad Dogg Spinning instructor and WaterFit instructor. He also manages Take Charge programs, which target chronic diseases and Ultimate Sports Training (UST) for student athletes.
Danielle Violette, MA, ATC
Athletic Trainer
“It’s so rewarding to provide injured athletes the treatment they need to return to the sports they love playing.”
Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Danielle has extensive experience working with athletes of all ages on injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. As part of the Wellness Center’s sports medicine outreach efforts, she’s committed to working with student athletes and other physically active people in the community. Danielle graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and earned a master's degree in exercise and sport science from the University of North Carolina. Most recently, she worked in Nashville for Vanderbilt Sports Medicine, supervising the healthcare needs of athletes on the Belmont University women’s soccer, softball, volleyball and golf teams. Danielle has also been involved in research on a range of training and conditioning topics, including knee injuries, concussions and diabetes in athletes.
Karen Carr, BS, NASM-CPT
Exercise Physiologist/Personal Trainer

A graduate of Lock Haven University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science
and rehab, Karen comes to the Wellness Center after 16 years of working primarily
in rehabilitation centers and managing exercise programs for physicians’practices.
A Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine,
she provides personal training with young people who are in middle school or older. She also offers one-on-one choreography, dance and cheerleading coaching with kids from
third grade through high school. “With the obesity problem among kids, I believe it’s
important to help them incorporate exercise and good nutrition into their lives as soon as
possible,” Karen says. In addition to working with the younger set, Karen particularly enjoys helping people of any age who are just beginning to exercise, or who are focused on recovering from an injury, surgery or other challenge. Karen’s advice for all exercisers: “Make sure you stretch before and after you exercise. Everybody forgets, and then they wonder why they’re more sore than they have to be.”
Kendra Confer, ACSM-HFI
Exercise Physiologist/Personal Trainer

Kendra graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. She is a certified Health Fitness Instructor (HFI) through the American College of
Sports Medicine (ACSM), a certified group fitness instructor through the Aerobics
and Fitness Association of America, and a certified instructor in Mad Dogg Spinning.
At the Wellness Center, Kendra specializes in sports-specific conditioning and working
with advanced exercisers. When she’s not helping clients meet their health and fitness goals, she concentrates on her own training for fitness and figure competitions. “It involves a special diet and workouts for about 16 weeks to prepare for a contest,” she explains.
Elizabeth Flynn, CPT
Lifestyle Manager, Personal Trainer, Water Aerobics Instructor
B.S., Kinesiology, Penn State University
Liz is certified through the American Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as a personal trainer, and is also certified through AFAA in Resist-a-Ball training. Liz also holds YMCA WaterFit certification.
Darshan Sharma, BA, CPT, Personal Trainer
B.A., Physical Education and Sports Studies, Bethany College

Darshan has more than seven years of experience as a personal trainer. He has extensive experience in training individuals with various chronic conditions and physical concerns, and specializes in training for beginners and mature adults. Darshan's course work was well diversified at Bethany College, WV, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sports Studies with a concentration in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology and an Independent Study for Personal Fitness Training and Nutrition. He is an IFPA-Certified Personal Trainer (International Fitness Professional Association) and Certified Health-Fitness Specialist through AAHPERD (American Alliance of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance). He is also certified in Mat Pilates through Powerhouse Pilates. His education and certifications have helped him build a strong foundation toward what he loves to actively practice on a daily basis.
Jackson Momplaisir, MS, ACE
Exercise Physiologist

Originally from Queens, New York, Jackson attended West Virginia University where
he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise physiology. As part of WVU’s
strength and conditioning staff, he worked with members of the school’s football,
baseball, women’s basketball and crew teams. Jackson earned his personal training
certification through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). Before joining the Wellness
Center, he worked in Morgantown as a personal trainer and managing children’s
camps. A personal trainer at the Wellness Center, he also is closely involved with the
Ultimate Sports Training (UST) program designed to help student athletes maximize
their potential. He advocates a holistic approach that incorporates strength, power,
speed and agility training. His sports training philosophy is based on sports training
from Mike Barwis, the former strength and conditioning coach at UVW now at the University of Michigan.
Jessica Shade, BS, ACLS
Exercise Physiologist
Jessica is a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Gerontology. During her internship with Canonsburg General Hospital, she developed a passion for Cardiac Rehabilitation. Recently she worked as an Exercise Physiologist for The Washington Hospital’s Cardiac Outreach and Rehabilitation Department, where she organized the program’s patient education classes, as well as a cholesterol-management program. Jessica is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. She also has had experience with weight-loss counseling, and assisting with physical therapy and rehabilitation through a variety of therapeutic modalities. Jessica manages the assessments and programs for those patients coming from Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation into Take Charge: Heart Health, a three-month program. She is very excited about working with the staff and members of the Wellness Center to make Take Charge: Heart Health a success.
Mike Lattimore, BS, ACE
Personal Trainer

Mike grew up in Bentleyville and graduated from Washington High School where he ran
track and played basketball. He then attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. Originally a physical education major, his personal experience and interest in working out led him instead to a fitness career. During his senior year, he worked as a fitness floor specialist at the Wellness Center, moving into a position as a personal trainer after graduating. He is certified in personal training through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). When not busy helping his clients achieve their personal fitness goals, he enjoys playing basketball, power lifting and working out.
Lynn Patterson
Master Pilates Instructor
Lynn turned to Pilates 10 years ago for relief from lower back pain. Not only did she permanently eliminate her pain – she felt so much stronger and more energized that she soon began training to become an instructor through PHI Pilates. She is now qualified to teach all levels of Pilates, including personal training, and is working toward earning her certification through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). Lynn has also participated in several PHI-produced instructional DVDs.
Julie Booth Yoga Instructor
Julie is certified through Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level. She graduated from the Three Rivers Yoga Institute’s Lifestyle Program in 2006 and completed her teacher training there the following year. Julie has participated in workshops with internationally known master yoga teachers such as Ana Forest, Donna Farhi, Kali Ray, and Paulie Zink. She also holds a certificate in teacher training for Taoist Yoga, Swedish Massage Therapy, and Reiki Level 1. Her instruction reflects her strong dedication to – and respect for – traditional hatha yoga practice.
Lisa Pendergast
Yoga and Pilates Instructor

Lisa is certified through YogaFit Teacher Training Level 1 and Powerhouse Pilates Mat Level 1. She has completed a one-year yoga teacher training that meets Yoga Alliance Standards. Lisa has been practicing yoga for 17 years and Pilates for 7 years, and has been teaching both since 2003. Lisa continues to advance her knowledge of yoga with additional workshops that focus on alignment, restorative yoga postures, organ and gland functions, and specific medical conditions. Specialty: Customized yoga personal instruction for adults with special medical conditions, and yoga for children.
Diane Welsh Pilates Instructor
Diane has been practicing Pilates for nine years. She trained to become a mat instructor in 2005 and three years later became qualified to teach Reformer. In addition to her Pilates specialty, she has earned certification as a personal trainer through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.
