Jan is a certified American Red Cross Water Safety instructor, YCMA Water Fit instructor, Trained Arthritis Foundation Water Program instructor, & certified lifeguard. Among her many achievements are being a 6-time Pennsylvania State Swimming Champion in high school, placing in the top eight at the 1976 and 1980 Olympic trials, ranking among the top 25 swimmers in the world from 1975-1979, and winning a gold medal in East Berlin, Germany, while competing for the United States international team.
Jan has coached collegiate swimming teams (Duquesne University) as well as local AAU/US and YMCA programs. She has been a swimming instructor for beginners through advanced competitors, and has also led water aerobics.
